How to Use This Test Page

Click Print / Save as PDF above to send the test page to your printer or save it as a PDF. For best results, print at 100% scale (no "fit to page" scaling) on plain white paper.

Reading the Results

  • Colour blocks: All 8 colours should be vivid and solid. Faded or missing colours indicate a low or blocked cartridge.
  • Grayscale strip: Steps should be clearly distinct from white (left) to black (right) with no banding.
  • Ink coverage: All four grey patches should be even and consistent — no horizontal streaks.
  • Gradient bar: The rainbow transition should be smooth with no colour cast or visible steps.
  • Colour temperature: The three "white" patches should look perceptibly different (warm/neutral/cool). If they look identical, your printer may have a colour cast.
  • Text: All sizes from 28pt down to 6pt should be legible. Fuzzy or broken characters suggest the print resolution is set too low.
  • Grid: Each square should be exactly 1 cm. Use a ruler to verify. Skewed lines indicate a paper alignment problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

Each block should appear as a clean, solid, vivid colour with no streaking or banding. If cyan, magenta, or yellow appear washed out or wrong, the corresponding ink cartridge may be low or a nozzle may be blocked. Run a print head cleaning cycle and try again.

The 11-step grayscale strip (0%–100%) tests tonal range. You should see a smooth gradient from pure white on the left to solid black on the right, with clearly distinct steps in between. Merging steps or banding indicates a problem with ink density or print head alignment.

The four patches test 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% ink coverage (black only). They help diagnose banding, streaking, and whether your printer can produce consistent mid-tones. Uneven fill in the 25% or 50% patches often means the print head needs cleaning.

The corner registration crosses and centre mark let you verify that the image is positioned correctly on the paper and that the printer is feeding paper straight. If the marks are cut off or skewed, check your paper guides and ensure the paper tray is loaded correctly.

Screen resolution varies, so the on-screen preview is not to scale. When printed, each grid square will be exactly 1 cm × 1 cm. Use a ruler to verify after printing.

Select "Grayscale" mode above before printing — this converts the preview to greyscale. Alternatively, choose "Print in greyscale" or "Black & white" in your printer driver dialog after clicking Print.

Click the Print button and in the print dialog choose "Save as PDF" (macOS) or "Microsoft Print to PDF" / "Save to PDF" (Windows/Chrome) as the destination printer.
